Interior designers' advice
What type of table is right for you?
Our interior designers will try to answer this question by offering you good advice that will help you make your mind up. When you're ready to buy a new table, read through this non-exhaustive checklist and consider the different benefits each type of table has to offer.
The 4 questions to ask yourself before choosing a table
How much space will it take up in your room? Do you have a large dining room that opens out into another room like the kitchen or living room? If you can see other rooms from your table, think about choosing one with a similar style to the rest of your furniture.
How many guests do you want it to seat? If you're a frequent entertainer, you might be better off going for a large table or one with an extendable top. Think about the legs and maybe consider a practical central leg.
What's your lifestyle like and how will the table actually be used? Do you tend to eat in another dining area? Do you have a separate home office? Take these factors into account when you're choosing the table that best meets your needs in terms of size and use.
What type of table best matches your decor? Wood is a timeless, high-quality material with the advantage of being warm and robust. Some types of wooden tables feature heat-resistant ceramic tops.
Square, round, oval or rectangular?
Small square tables look good in small spaces and are ideal for couples and families of up to four. Rectangular and oval tables, however, are more suited to large dining rooms. Some of the bigger ones can seat up to 16 people.
